Born into a family of opera musicians, Borbála Szuromi (*1992) began her music education in Budapest, before obtaining a double Master’s degree in violin and voice at HEM Haute école de musique de Genève – Neuchâtel
Passionate about contemporary music, she was awarded the Prix Paléo Festival Nyon, the Prix Contrechamps, the Leenaards Cultural Grant 2023 and the 2nd prize of Concours Nicati 2025.
She collaborates with composers such as Stefano Gervasoni, Xavier Dayer, Jacques Demierre, Matteo Gualandi, Leonardo Marino, András Emszt, Julie Semoroz, Ezko Kikoutchi, and performs with the NEC, Ensemble Contrechamps and at Festival Archipel. At the Grand Théâtre de Genève, she sang as a soloist in Einstein on the Beach by Philip Glass and performed the role of Veronika for OperaLab.ch.
Borbála has worked with many renowned conductors, including Clement Power, Arie Van Beek, Gábor Takács-Nagy and Tomas Hanus.
She approaches a wide repertoire of modern classical and experimental music, exploring the relationship between vocal practice and electronics. Her recital Aurora Vocalis, a polyphonic and spatialised sound journey, created with David Poissonnier, has been programmed at the Hellensmusic Festival (UK), ISON Budapest (HU), Les Culturelles in Lausanne and the Biennale in Situ in Lausanne.
